Why We're Here: Helping People Say Yes to God
After salvation, why does God leave us here instead of immediately taking us to Heaven? According to Scripture, God has given every believer a mission.
In this message, Dr. Rocky Ramsey teaches 2 Corinthians 5, where believers are described as ambassadors for Christ. Having been reconciled to God through Jesus, Christians are now entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation—sharing the message that others can also be restored to God.
“For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
The message begins in Genesis, where humanity is created in God's image. Though sin distorted that image, God's work of salvation is not only to forgive us but also to restore us into Christ's likeness. Genuine salvation produces transformation, and that transformation equips believers to represent Jesus to the world.
Jesus not only works for us through His sacrifice but continues working in us through the Holy Spirit so He can ultimately work through us in the lives of others.
Pastor Rocky encourages every believer to participate in God's mission through simple, intentional steps: inviting people to church, bringing them into Christian community, and sharing the hope of the Gospel.
As neighborhoods continue to grow and new families move into the community, the church has an incredible opportunity to reach people with the love of Christ. Every conversation, every invitation, and every act of kindness can become part of God's work of reconciliation.
Being a Christian isn't simply about going to heaven someday. It's about representing Christ faithfully today.
