Why the Holy Spirit Came the Way He Did
The arrival of the Holy Spirit in Acts was one of the most significant moments in church history.
In this message, Dr. Rocky Ramsey explains Jesus’ promise in John 14 that the Father would send another Helper, the Spirit of truth, who would dwell with and within believers.
Before the Holy Spirit came, Jesus instructed His followers to wait in Jerusalem. They were promised the Holy Spirit, spiritual power, and a mission to become witnesses to the ends of the earth.
That promise was fulfilled at Pentecost in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came upon believers. They spoke in languages they had never learned, allowing people from many nations to hear the mighty works of God in their own tongues.
Rocky's message then traces additional moments where the Holy Spirit came upon new groups of believers: in Samaria, Damascus, Caesarea, and Ephesus. In several of these moments, the laying on of hands accompanied the filling of the Spirit. These events were not merely repetitive experiences, but powerful signs marking the expansion of the Gospel to different groups of people.
The message also addresses the role of tongues in Acts, showing how God used these miraculous signs to confirm that Jews, Samaritans, Gentiles, and others were all being united into one church.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”
