Emotions: A Gift or a Trap?
In this message—William Hunt takes us on a deep dive into the emotional life—both divine and human.
We see that emotion begins with God Himself. God feels. Jesus wept. The Holy Spirit comforts, grieves, and empowers. Emotion, in its perfect form, reflects God’s character.
But in a post-Fall world, our emotions are vulnerable. They can be misleading, manipulated, and even weaponized by our flesh or the enemy. What began as a perfect gift has, at times, become a trap.
Yet God hasn’t left us to be ruled by our feelings. He invites us to bring them to Him—to lay our sadness, anger, fear, and joy at His feet. He offers peace, healing, and control. Most of all, He uses our emotional experiences to pull us into deeper relationship with Him.
Key points:
God expresses perfect emotion.
Jesus models emotional clarity and control.
Our emotions were originally good, but are now prone to distortion.
We must submit our emotions to God’s truth.
Through the Spirit, we gain emotional strength, self-control, and transformation.
