What to Do When You Suffer
Suffering is one of life’s guarantees—but so is victory for those in Christ. In this encouraging and equipping message, Dr. Rocky Ramsey walks us through 1 Peter 5:8–14 and helps us understand how to endure suffering with faith, perspective, and strength.
He reminds us that suffering has a spiritual backdrop: we have an enemy who lies, deceives, accuses, and seeks to devour. But we don’t have to be victims. God calls us to resist the enemy, stand firm in truth, and realize that our suffering is both temporary and shared—we’re not alone.
Most importantly, Pastor Rocky emphasizes that Jesus will carry us to the finish line. He will complete, support, and strengthen us. When suffering tempts us to give in or implode, God invites us to stand, endure, and remember: We win in the end.
“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Through Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard him), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it! She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does my son, Mark. Greet one another with a kiss of love.
Peace be to you all who are in Christ.”
