Who We Are
Corryton Church is a unique congregation that blends the best of church life from both the past and the present. You can still enjoy a choir as they join a talented praise team and band. Though most of the music is contemporary, you can still often enjoy the best of the great hymns. With the large video screens, there are no bad seats in the house.
Corryton reinvented itself years ago and has become a church for the unchurched. Most people don’t go to church because they have been to church. They were burned, bored, or both. Over half of the Corryton family were not church-goers when they found their way back to God here.
Though located in a beautiful rural setting, the church draws attenders from a large geographical area. Thirty different middle and high schools are represented in the Student ministry.
Our vision at Corryton is to help people discover and experience the lives they were made for. Every person begins as dream in the heart of God. There is someone we were made to know: God Himself (John17:3). There is someone we were made to be: our individual personality coupled with Christ’s righteous character (Romans 8:29). And there are some things that we were made to do: our own, unique purpose (Ephesians 2:10). Corryton Church wants you to experience the abundant life that Christ lived and died to give you (John 10:10).
DR. ROCKY RAMSEY, Senior Pastor
Rocky Ramsey has been the Senior Pastor of Corryton Church for the past 25 years. During his tenure, the church has more than quadrupled in size even though it is still located ten miles from the nearest highway. The church has also added over fifty acres of property to the campus and completed over six million dollars of renovations and additions.
Rocky lost his father to cancer before he turned five and eventually become an angry young rebel. A three-sport all-star, he discovered that the trophies, the reckless living…all that the world had to offer, did not satisfy the deepest longings of his heart. Through the influence of some friends, he discovered that what his heart longed for most could only be satisfied by a personal relationship with the God he was made for. Rocky came to Christ and eventually gave up college basketball to do what He was made to do: help others.
Rocky has a business degree from UT Knoxville and graduate degrees from Mid-America and Luther Rice Seminaries. Rocky has been married to his wife, Betsy, for 29 years. Their oldest daughter Sarah is married to Houston Qualls and is the choral director at a local high school. She also teaches piano. His younger daughter Emily is a kindergarten teacher and is married to Matt Windham.
